Beyond the Sheets: Kami Jones, PhD on Why Rest and Breath are a Privilege for the Black and POC Community
We cover the connection between breath and quality rest with Kami Jones, PhD, who is a developmental psychologist, mentor, researcher, experienced yoga instructor and creator of A Place to Breathe. Kami also explains the daily, often unnoticed by the white community, traumas experienced by the BIPOC community that lead to quality rest and restorative breathing being a privilege, not a right. She is a protector of space - for herself, her loved ones, for the BIPOC community, and you and me.
Daniel Poulin is a visionary, plain and simple. With over 30 years of strategic leadership, innovation and advocacy, Daniel is poised to lead and change the industry for the better. In our last Beyond the Sheets conversation of 2020 (we did it, folks!), Daniel discusses accessible wellness and what that looks like for spas, hotels and the community as a whole. He dives into the impact of COVID-19 on our social wellness and the importance of social interactions on our health. And, we, of course, talk about sleep and how it is the most crucial element to extending one’s life...
I think we all can agree 2020 has left us exhausted with our mental and physical energy running on empty. That is why the greatest gift you can give yourself, and others, this season is the gift of the best rest. Investing in enhancing your sleep doesn’t have to be another chore. Once our bedding is on your bed, we do all the work restoring you, your skin and your hair. This is wellness while you sleep.
This year, we urge you to think about who and what your money supports. Mindful sleep care practices go hand in hand with mindful spending. We encourage supporting Black and Persons of Color owned small businesses championing sleep care. Here are five sleep care gifts from Black and POC businesses to power your loved one’s sleep!
