We all have our own established daily routines, and the variation in these routines truly illustrates the diversity of people. For instance, many people create a morning routine around drinking a cup of coffee. Other people incorporate running or other forms of exercise into their routines in order to stay healthy and fit. For me, two routines I strive to keep consistent are with sleep and skincare. In this post I want to share with you why I’ve established routines for sleep and skincare, as well as how these routines relate to beauty.
The importance of consistent sleep routines
My sleep routine starts with winding down and relaxing from the day. Once the kids get to bed, I love taking the time to enjoy the quiet in the house. I’ll typically read during these quiet evening moments instead of watching TV. Not only do I prefer reading over watching TV, but I’m happy to say that science has proven this routine can lead to improved sleep quality. This is because TV and other electronics emit light of a blue wavelength, which tricks our brains into thinking that it is daytime. According to Healthline, numerous studies suggest that blue light in the evening disrupts the brain’s natural sleep-wake cycles, which are crucial for optimal function of the body. While avoiding electronics at night is beneficial for my overall sleep quality, there is one bad part about reading before bed: if I get really involved in what I’m reading I find it difficult to fall asleep! Therefore, I try to stick to reading things that will make me sleepy (like keeping up with current events- lol).
The next part of my sleep routine involves my sleep mask. I have to admit, I’ve become addicted to my sleep mask; I cannot get a good night’s sleep without it! I have found that covering my eyes in darkness really helps to quiet my mind and improves the quality of my sleep, which is very important, especially when I can’t get the quantity of sleep that I desire.
One of the most important aspects of my sleep routine is making it a goal to go to sleep and wake up at the same time everyday. Science has proven that waking up at the same time every day stabilizes your circadian rhythm, which should result in you naturally becoming tired at the same time every night. The Fitness Network explains that having a steady circadian rhythm helps you to be more alert, have stress-free mornings, and feel more calm and centered. However, this has been a challenge for me personally. I’m slowly becoming a little better at it, but I always need to set an alarm (with enough time to hit the snooze button once or twice). And I still relish every weekend day when I can sleep until I wake up without an alarm!
Beautiful skin is healthy skin
I believe that beautiful skin is healthy skin. This is, of course, why I was motivated to develop Auratek Textiles; sleeping on the right type of fabric is a simple anti-aging mechanism that can help keep your skin healthy and beautiful.
Another important anti-aging tactic that I follow is staying consistent with my established daily skincare routines, which help keep my skin healthy and looking its best. For example, I always wash my face morning and night, as well as after workouts if I’m not able to shower immediately. Additionally, I’ve been using Nerium day cream and night cream for the past five years in order to address both the existing and future signs of aging. I was drawn to Nerium because of the science behind the brand, the compelling before and after pictures, and the simplicity of the routine (you only need two products!). Plus, I can see that these products are working for me.
Another way that I keep my skin healthy is by incorporating sunscreen into my skincare routine every day. I always put sunscreen on in the morning and try to reapply midday if I’m going to spend time outside. I’ve started keeping some in my car for those unexpected stops at the playground or sunny kids sports games.
Beauty is more than skin deep
While I do think that following a consistent skincare routine is important for maintaining healthy, beautiful skin, I understand that beauty is more than skin deep. Attributes like being relaxed in your skin and being confident (without being boastful) go a long way towards making someone look beautiful. There is beauty all around us every day, we just need to have our eyes open to see it.
