We all have our own established daily routines, and the variation in these routines truly illustrates the diversity of people. For instance, many people create a morning routine around drinking a cup of coffee. Other people incorporate running or other forms of exercise into their routines in order to stay healthy and fit. At Nollapelli, two routines we strive to keep consistent are with sleep and skincare. In this post we want to share with you why we’ve established routines for sleep and skincare, as well as how these routines relate to beauty.

The importance of consistent sleep routines

For our founder and CEO, Allison Howard, her sleep routine starts with winding down and relaxing from the day. Once the kids get to bed, she loves taking the time to enjoy the quiet in the house. She’ll typically read during these quiet evening moments instead of watching TV. Not only does she prefer reading over watching TV, but science has proven this routine can lead to improved sleep quality. This is because TV and other electronics emit light of a blue wavelength, which tricks our brains into thinking that it is daytime. According to Healthline, numerous studies suggest that blue light in the evening disrupts the brain’s natural sleep-wake cycles, which are crucial for optimal function of the body. While avoiding electronics at night is beneficial for overall sleep quality, there is one bad part about reading before bed: if you tend to get really involved in what you’re reading, sometimes it can be difficult to fall asleep! Therefore, try to stick to reading things that will make you sleepy.

The next part of Allison’s sleep routine involves her sleep mask. Allison tells us that she’s become addicted to her sleep mask; she simply cannot get a good night’s sleep without it! Covering your eyes in darkness really helps to quiet your mind and improves the quality of sleep, which is very important, especially when you can’t always get the quantity of sleep that you desire.

Allison says she’s slowly becoming a little better at it, but still always needs to set an alarm (with enough time to hit the snooze button once or twice). And she still definitely relishes every weekend day when she can sleep until she wakes up without an alarm!
